The single “Turn the Lights Back On” will be available on all digital outlets and limited-edition 7-inch vinyl on February 1. Joel will also be releasing a lyric video on his YouTube page.

Joel will also play at the Grammy Awards a few days later; the show will broadcast live on CBS on February 4.

The five-time Grammy winner and Grammy Legend Award recipient teases new music on social media with a photo of himself changing the lyrics to “Famous Last Words,” a 1993 song that features the chorus “These are the last words I have to say.” Melancholic piano notes introduce the “Turn the Lights Back On” clip, which then fades off.

Unusually for Joel, he co-wrote the song with Wayne Hector, Arthur Bacon, and Freddy Wexler (Ariana Grande, Celine Dion), who also produced.

More: Billy Joel’s life as seen in imagesJoel hinted at potential new music during his Madison Square Garden residency on December 19, telling the audience, “We got a little something we’re working on you might hear sometime.” He also shared the lyrics to the song “Did I wait too long… to turn the lights back on?” on social media in the last few days.

Joel hasn’t published a pop album since 1993’s “River of Dreams,” despite releasing the ballad “All My Life” in 2007 as a Valentine’s Day gift to his then-wife Katie Lee. Joel has also expressed his unwillingness to make new music on multiple occasions. “Fantasies & Delusions,” his final studio album from 2001, featured a number of his classical compositions.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer will turn 75 in May, but he will never stop traveling. After an incredibly successful ten years of almost monthly gigs, he will conclude his residency at the Garden in July. This year, he has multiple stadium dates (joined at times by Stevie Nicks and Sting).
